Cichlid Kid![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 553 Kudos: 285 Votes: 34 Registered: 22-May-2004 ![]() ![]() | Hi my oscar is sick and hads been sick for a while i think he may be getting worse but im not sure, he has wounds near his face and they seem white and brown like it is decaying,i know i shouldnt hve but since he was sick for like 4 months i dumped like half a bottle ofmelafix in the tank it was a small bottle not a large one, and it didnt seem to help at all, now he has been sick for about 6 months but he is active and eat properly and swims properly so im not sure if he is still sick or not, my lfs said he had hith and when he got over it he may still have scars r these scars, i havent check the perims. in a while but probally will tonight,i think the tank i good to go tho b/c i cleaned it out did a water change and it looks good but ill check any way, i was just wondering if i could heal these wounds in anyways. |

The first site below has a couple of B&W pics of HITH, and the second some colour. I'll warn you in advance they are pretty disturbing pictures, especially for anyone who likes fish: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/spironucleus.php http://www.flippersandfins.net/HITHarticle2.htm The overdose of Melafix was a bad idea. The TeaTree oil that is the 'active' part of Melafix works by irratating the fish's skin to make it produce more slime. Basically, what you have done would be like sticking your arm in boiling water. Not very nice. I suggest when you post the parameters of your tank you also post a picture or two of the fish that is ill. It sounds more like a bacterial infection or a parasite, but without pic's and tank parameters, it's all guess work. I suggest you do a 50% water change immediately to try and reduce the concentration of Melafix in the tank, and then don't use any more. Post the parameters and pictures, and wait for some useful advice. |
