I think there is something wrong with my rubbernose pleco. He appears to be changing color, his head is still the dark grey that it normally is but his back half is starting to fade. This is a new develop, today is the first day I've noticed it. He also isn't moving very much. Normally when I come up to the tank, he tries to hide very quickly. Today, he barely moved, even when I touched him. He is about 5 and a half inches long and was this size when we got him, so I don't know how old he is. He is in a 55 gallon with loaches and quoramis. The water tested out fine, but I went ahead and did a water change anyways just to be safe. What do you think the problem is? He hasn't been eating much lately. He went back to his old ways of only eating algea on the tank and will only eat frozen shrimp besides that. Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Jen

have you seen him go to the toilet lately, what does it look like, is the tummy swollen, or sunken in, and has he lost weight.

I haven't noticed him going to the bathroom, but I also haven't been looking for that either. His stomach appears to be the same as it always is...not too skinny but not bloated. He came down off the glass last night like he was going to eat the shrimp, but today he just kind of sits near it and won't eat. His back half is definitely a different color than the front half.
Thanks for the help

It sounds like he might have a bacteria infection, usually they darkened in colour with that, there isn't a fish or anything in the tank that is stressing him.

Right now he is laying on his side, kind of sucking on the glass, but looking at him better, his stomach might be sunk in a bit. Is this an internal infection that I just didn't catch? I'll feel so bad if it could have been something that I just didn't catch until it was too late. Poor Pleco

Classic signs of starvation (obviously). Internal parasites could be a possibility, but judging from the species in quesiton, it is more likely to be the former.

The pleco died last night. It was the saddest thing ever. I really don't understand because he was eating or appeared to be eating a few days ago. I feel so bad for the big guy. RIP Tank...you'll be missed.
