Okay, so my fish have all started flashing around the tank, rubbing on anything they can find. I even noticed my dojo flashing today which really worries me because he is my all time favorite fish. I tried to treat with coppersafe but that did absolutely nothing to remedy the problem. Now, as suggesed by my LFS, I have been trying to treat the fish with Quick Cure, but that doesn't really seem to be helping at all either. Does anyone know what this could be and how I can fix it?
Also, my dojos barbels are starting to wear away. I noticed this first a few days ago when one of his barbels had white dots on it, and he wouldn't eat. The next day, the barbel had fallen off where the white one and he went back to his old self. What does barbel erosion look like? Is this due to too high nitrates? I just realized that the test kit I have doesn't test for nitrates, keep meaning to pick one up but really hard because of classes.

29 gallon
nitrites 0
ammonia 0
Ph 7.5

Do they have white spots that look like they have been sprinkled with salt, yes high nitrates can cause alot of things.

Do a 25% water change with same temp water and matching pH and syphon the gravel until all debris is gone...

Do not feed for two days and dose Melafix, an anticeptic, according to bottle directions.

Do another 25% water change in 24 hours.

Repeat if required.

Kitty,
there are no white spots and they have been doing this for a few weeks.
Gary,
is the melafix to help for the barbels or the flashing? If only for the barbels, what do you suggest I do about the flashing?

You're dealing with "itch"...

Numerous organisms which develop from too many settlings and uneaten food in the tank.

Normally the treatment is with permanganate of potash but I'm hoping the Melafix will kill/control the organisms and the small amount of barbel fungus.

Ok we got the melafix, gravel vac the dirt outta the tank everyday and have made water changes accordingly. IF this process does not work in the end of the medication (melafix), what is the suggestion? I have seen in many forums this same problem of flashing and nobody has been able to figure it out. I hope this method works, if not then what?
