My otto has 2 bumps on his head which appear to be cysts. His colours are also fading and I think I am beginning to see an arch in his spine. Is this fish tb . Are arched backs always related to tb? I think he's still eating, but most of his time is spent lying on the gravel. I can't a good enough look becase my ottos like to hide behind all my plants at the back of the tank.

I am not an expert about fish TB, but I do know this. If you really think it's Tb be very careful in handling the sick fish. From what I understand of it, it can be contracted by humans. Although for the time being let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's start with your water parameters..i.e. ph, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels. Also what size tank and anything else you think of that would be of any help.

I am no expert either but a lot more infomation is required please. If the otheres are hiding there has to be a reason.

Well my ottos always hide behind the plants, its normal of them to do that, and they are more active at night. Its a 32 gallon with 5 danios, 3 ottos, 6 cories, 6 cardinals, 6 black neons and an angel. The last time I checked parameters was... last thursday i believe but ill check again. Water parameters from last time i checked were...
Ammonia 1.2
nitrite 0.6
nitrate 30-40
temp 26C

There was an increase of ammonia from meds I am using because im treating the tank for fungus. I can't see that affected otto right now it is hiding behind a plant. All other fish are fine so far, the only other affected fish are a cory that has fungus and a cardinal that seems to have a problem of some sort. It kind of looks like whole in the head disease but I'm not quite sure. And i am aware that tb could be transmitted to humans in rare cases, but i always wear gloves when doing anywork in the aquarium and I wash my hands before and after doing maintainance. I'll try to give another update when i see the otto.

Ok i just checked the tank a few minutes ago and I saw one of the ottos which I think was the affected one. It looks like his colour is coming back and the 2 bumps on his head are reducing in size. What are these bumps? They are a bit clearish looking. I think what I saw with the arched spine the other day was just the otto bending that way. Ottos bend their spine to avoid object. I see them with their spine and tail curved one way to eat algae of the bottom of the glass where the gravel is. I also see them laying on the gravel sometimes with their tail one way to avoid certain objects such as plants. I think I saw a partial bend in the spine the othr day but I think the otto was bending that way slightly. Ill keep updating with more info.

I managed to get a pic of him. It wasn't to great but I saw him lying on a rock and it was a great overhead view so i ran for the camera and he disappeared but i found him again behind some plants. There is one of the bumps showed in the pic and its the white dot. The pic isnt that great but I'll try to get others.

Eric I can't see your pic..It says I am not the owner of the album. I think you have to make it public or something. Let us know when you fix it.

It didn't work. I'm sure it would work for you it's your album, but it's not letting me see it. Maybe someone else will try to look and tell us if they can see it.

I saw my otto again and he doesnt look too bad. The lumps seem to be getting smaller and colours are coming back a bit. My cories though on the other hand seem to be losing a bit of colour. Could this just be from higher ammonia levels in the tank due to the meds that are still in there. I was supposed to do a water change and remedicate with another dose but I am just leaving the current meds in there and going to do a water change soon and run some carbon. They are eating normally and everything else is fine.

Well it very well could be from ammonia. Maybe use some Ammo-lock or something? That will at least convert the ammonia into a non-toxic state. Keep in mind your test kit will probably still read ammonia levels similar to what you have now, but a specific ppm will be subtracted. Good luck.

BTW the pic worked this time
