Hi Everyone,
I have a Silver Shark that decided it would go into a log ornament I have containing two holes at the front. Unfortunately he went in thru the big hole and tried to get out thru the smaller one, hence he wedged himself in
I have to admit I felt awful as I knew he would die if I left him there. With tears in my eyes I knew I had to try and help him out. I gently gripped his head and put my other hand in the log and as I wiggled his head and pulled on his body I finally got him free. My silver shark now has a mark on top where he was wedged in and his scales came off his sides as I pulled him free. Does anyone know if these will all grow back
Thanks
BubbleLover

This is what I found
"Scales Falling Off -- Loss of scales is usually due to a mechanical injury. Keep the water good and the fish healthy and they will grow back."

this info was found at

Keep some melafix and pimafix handy, it will help keep fungus and bacteria off the scrapes, but if youre water is really clean theres no real worries generally. Be prepared though.

i think if the injury is bad enough it can cause scarring which in some cases the scales may not grow back.. you will definately want to treat with some kind of antifungal medication

unfortunately, i dont know of any to suggest. perhaps another member could help out with that.

Thanks, looks like I better get some antifungal on standby from my lfs. When I got him out of the log he laid on the heater for a while then the next day swam around not looking happy. But now he seems to be back to his usual self. Fingers crossed all is ok.
Thanks for all the info everyone.

its usually not a good sign when fish hang by the heater, its a sign they're not feeling well...... hope everything turns out okay.

try adding a few doses of aquarium salt... that will help his wounds heal faster.

Thanks for your comments everyone.
My silver shark is back to his normal self. On the top where he was stuck and had left a 'pinkish' scrape is now a black colour. It seems like his scales on the sides are growing back.........All is well. /:'
