I have had to move the fish from my old tank as it was leaking to a smaller tank 16" for a few days and i have got a new 36" tank. I moved the syno back to the larger tank and noticed white markings which i have no idea what they are.

Any advice plz.

Looks like an infection, possibly from netting (not uncommon, especially if net wasn't disinfected).

Was the temp identical when you transferred?

Make sure ammonia and nitrite are zero. If they are good, then I would dose with an anti-bacterial that is deemed safe for catfish in the UK. One that you can try is Melafix and, if they have it in the UK, Pimafix. Do them together as it is much better and they compliment one another. Fish tolerate these well and they don't upset the biofilter.

I would use a small amount of freshwater aquarium salt, predissolved to help replace electrolytes lost through the infection. Use half strength or less. One safe way to dissolve it slowly is to add a rock type freshwater aquarium salt to a container and poke holes in the lid, then sink it. It will dissolve over days. Generally, 1 Tbsp per gallon is the recommendation, but for half strength I would use about 1 rounded tsp for such a fish. Salt can burn them if it is not predissolved and if salinity goes up too fast or comes down too fast, it can cause osmotic shock.
