so the other day i noticed that my angelfish has a hole in his tailfin and i do not know what happened to him. does anyone know what might have happened?

also i was wondering if it will eventually heal over and the fin will grow back to be normal. what should i do if anything??? also what should i do if it happens to get all infected? and how do you tell if it is?

anyone's help would be nice!!!

how's your water quality? The hole may have been caused by poor water conditions, and if left unchecked may lead to finrot. I would add melafix and a little aquarium salt in the meantime, and keep your water crystal clear.

well now it looks like it may be starting to heal back over and the water should be fine. but it looks fine so we'll have to see.

but i still do not know what caused it to happen?????

First thing I'd look @ other than tankmates, would be the decor in the tank. If you've rearrainged the tank lately it might have just been that it bumped into the wrong thing. If you have any fake plants, they've been known for sometimes having sharp edges, rocks and driftwood might also be to blame as well.

While it wasn't the subject of your original post, you might want to consider fixing some gaps and problems in your tank stock .

i know, and i am in the middle of deciding what to do. do you have any suggestions???
i was thinking of going with:
2 angelfish
1 pleco
3 bandit cories
6-8 harlequin fish
