Ammonia is zero, Nitrite is around 5.0 and Nitrate is around 5.0 But now I noticed my irridescent shark has ich. I raised the Temp and added Salt, but noticed that now his fins look like a case of fin rot. I also have a black tetra in there who doesn't show ich but his fins look like they're rotting. The others - 3 Platys, a pictus cat, yellow lab, buenos aries tetra, all appear ok. Can I do a partial water change at this stage of the cycle? My buddy said Malachite green ruins the seals in the tank. What do I do for the rot and why did it happen? Any help is appreciated....Thanks.. |

Follow the bottle directions. Many species cannot tolerate the ammonia and nitrite spikes associated with a cycling tank and their immunity to disease is diminished. Raise the temp to 86 degrees, dose the fungus med and watch to see if the ich recedes along with the fungus. You must increase surface movement under high heat conditions to allow for an increased oxygen saturation. Remove all carbon. --garyroland. --Vero Beach, Florida.
