I almost flushed him, instead I put him into a different tank. He was breathing extremely heavy. The next mourning I got up, and he was fine. After a few days I put him back into the original tank, and the same thing happened, so again I took him out. I checked the water, the nitrite was a little high, but not that bad. All the other fish in that tank are fine. Why is this one fish start dieing when I put him in that tank? I also closely checked, he was not being beat on. |

Then 2 1/2 gln, next was 10 gln on to a 29 gln. Now I have a 110 gln, with oscars and dempsey's, a 50-60 gln home made outdoor tank/pond under the covered patio where the african cichlids are, and a 10 gln I usually use for feeders but that's where I put the little guy who was having the problem. I promised myself I wouldn't buy a bigger tank until I buy a bigger house. But I've been known to break a promise or two before. Ha Ha, we'll see. |

NitrItes sould be 0 in a balanced/cycled tank. Now if it were nitrAtes that would be a diff story. Alot of African cichlids, while are known as being very "hardy", are not very tolerable to nitrIte or Ammonia spikes, which could be the case in your situation. If all other fish are fine ,I would bet it be about aggression and that your nitrIte readings were false. Test nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia again and see for sure. Sometimes you will find Africans that just DONT get along, not ba |
