I have a 20 gal. that's been sick for what seems like forever, and I've been treating it with "melafix" for the proper amount of time (7 days) and I've also done the recommended water change....slightly larger in fact, but it seems to have worked well, and the fish have stopped dying or acting like they're going to. Does that mean it's ok? I'd like to transfer some of my larger fish into it, since they're in a smaller tank, and they're growing steadily, but I don't want them to get sick form the other fish already in the tank. What can I do? How do I know if the tank is still contaminated?

First it'd be important for us to know what the fish were sick with. Melafix is good for healing after other medications have been used, it's not really (dispite what the lable says) enough to cure infections.

hm....ok, well I'm pretty sure the fish had fungus. at first it seemed like ich, since there where white spots on everything, but then the fish started to get these "fuzzy" growths on them, the fungus, I presume. I lost several fish before I found the mela-fix, and when I started the directed treatment, the fish seemed to be much better. Does that help at all?

Somewhat... Fungus can't really be compleatly cured by melafix. If they're still showing symptoms I'd suggest getting something stronger rather then continually treating with melafix. It's like using a bandaid when you really need stitches.

Do you have ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte numbers for this tank?
