![]() | White fungus/parasite???? on peppered cat |
alibukinah![]() Hobbyist Posts: 66 Kudos: 53 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Mar-2004 ![]() ![]() | Hiya. temp; 22 C (74F) Ph was very acid - about 6. I added a bit of bicarb to lift it slightly, but all the fish in the tank are ok with that level of acidity... nitrates 40 - 50 nitrites nil ammonia nil 180 litres just had the blue thingimy stuff (the name eludes me this minute...) used for treating White spot added 8 days ago (tank is still blue!!!) I have nothing but endless trouble with my tank and as much as I love being able to sit and mellow out in front of my tank, I am to the point where I can say I honestly wish I hadn't started another one... In a 180 litre tank (sorry, I don't know what the US conversions are) I am down to two rosy tetras and two peppered cats. My tank has been wiped out!! I think I have had a few different problems and i believe this latest one was brought in on some plants. I have removed everything but the gravel (and the filter and the heater of course) and I vacuumed the gravel really well at that point. i did a water change (about 25%) and changed the filter medium 24 hours after in case I upset any bacteria. One of my peppered cats developed white spots. White Spot I thought, and treated in the usual way... some of the white spots grew and became like short white hairs about 2mm long or spider webby lace like stuff wafting about (still attached). I waited for the White Spot treatment time to end, changed 20 litres of water and treated with praziquantal because I thought it was a parasite. I didn't like adding so many meds all in such a short time, but my fish was starting to look pretty bad and at that stage he was acting sick too. Sits and looks like he is dead and only moves (when I am watching) if I try to net him. reckon he feels like crap. He doesn't seem improved with the treatment. The spots on his body/fins are not as major as those around his eyes which look like shaggy/ floaty eyebrows. Any ideas? Ali |

Because of space limitations, I can't go into the "complete guide of fishkeeping" or tackle the many problems you're encountering without taking up a ton of pages. If you're going to keep tropicals the way they should be kept and end up enjoying the hobby as so many of us do, please study. --garyroland. |
