I have a platy with what looks like a piece of white styrofoam stuck to his side. I am assuming that this is some form of funal infection which may have formed on a wound? There was no signs of a wound yesterday.

I had a similar thing on a gourami recently which formed on a fin nip.

Can anyone tell me what this is? I have quarantined him and am treating with Melafix.

What are your water parameters? What size of tank is it and what other fish are in it? Does it look like [link=Lymphocystis]http://aquarticles.com/articles/management/Lawler_Lymphocystis.html" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]?

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

It's definitely not ich. I've experienced that before.

The white "stuff" actually comes off when the fish is netted.

It looks like there is some form of small wound underneath.

Water parameters: Ph -7, Ammonia -0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, Temp 26 deg. 180 litre (45gal) tank (should probably put this in my profile) 1200(L) x 500(H) x 300(W).

Cory Addict - I do believe you have solved the mystery!

After reading the article I'm not sure whether I'msupposed to do nothing or burn the infected fish.

Suggestions?

Latest Update;

Dwarf Gourami has passed on.

Male Platty has made a 100% recovery. He looks super keen to rejoin the girls.
