I have a zebra Danio that has lived in my tank for about 6 months. Yesterday I noticed one bright red spot low on its caudal fin that seems to be three dimensional (maybe a cyst or tumor). The danio's behavior and coloring is normal otherwise.

The tank is 20 gal, pH btwn 6.8-7.0, amonia/nitrates 0-.1 ppm, temp 77 deg F, hardness 80-120 ppm KH and GH.

I have seen a lot of hits for white spots or Ich, but have
not seen anything about red spots. The closest thing I've found so far is Red pest (which may lead to ulcerations and fin or tail rot) but red pest is described as red streaks, not cyst-like spots.

Please help in diagnosing, so that I can treat my fish.
Thanks,
Matt

Usually a raised red spot is an indicator of a parasite...

The trop should be isolated and treated with an OTC parasite med.

Reply 1: Yes it does look like a warty type growth, but it is very small. Maybe 1/20th the size of the caudal fin.

Reply 2: Thank you I will try it out.
