I just finished up a horrible battle with ich and am looking to restock. Most of my rummynose tetras got wiped out. How long should I wait a few weeks a couple of days. My 3 remaining rummys are putting around like they are looking for the others. It is pretty sad to watch. |

The ich parasite, of which there are several species, must be challenged as soon as you see the tiny white spots emerging. Otherwise, the fish becomes completely fungused and dies of the infection. A constant higher temp, say 80 degrees, should be helpful in retarding any further outbreaks of ich. A waiting period of at least two weeks with no ich indications showing, should be a safe period to introduce new trops. If you can isolate the new trops for two weeks to make sure they're free of ich, that would be a good procedure. --garyroland. |
