i set up a bio tank for my amazon fish. live plants carib sea substrate, the p.h. is 7.2 amonia and nitrites are 0 i buy healthy angel fish and they swim and play and eat normal for some times days at most or 2 days at least and are found dead. no nipped fins no illness, just dead. the tank contains tetras and gouramis that are all healthy and alive for months now no deaths. and i even tried the "unknown death" medication at a local pet store. but lost 3 since in 2 weeks and am tiring of buying new ones but love angels more than any other. help.]

What type of carib sea substrate are you using? Also, is the tank cycled? You listed 0 for nitrites and ammonia, but what are the nitrates? What's the water temp and general hardness? What size tank is it and how many fish of each species? Do you use any water conditioners ( chemicals, dechlorinator, etc) ?

the tank is cycled the hardness is normal for amazon fish i have used stress coat and chems to get rid of chlorine , i do regular water changes, the nitrates are 0 also and the caribsea is for amazon tanks, i have had this problem with regular gravel and no fish in the tank, i have now tetras and a gourami in the tank not many, im convinced that the quality of the angels are not like they used to be from local dealers.

i have noticed that many more people view this page than those who give advice. please all the info i can get and ideas are appreciated im at a loss here thanks.

I'm at a loss. Could your test kits be faulty? Take some of your water to the lfs and have them test it also, just to make sure.

With good water parameters in a cycled tank, with the fish having no symptoms and such....could it be poisoning of some kind? Do you or anyone else in the house spray a lot of air freshener around or anything?

dont expect everybody to know the answer... everyong that looks at this thread might not know it, and leave.

Anyways, I would suggest going to a different place to get your angles, and accimate them for a longer period of time.

I'd definitely have the water tested again - get numbers for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. 0 nitrates isn't normal at all. How big is the tank? How long of an acclimation and of what type are you doing? Don't give up on the dealer until you've explored all the possibilities.

being that my water is testing perfect by my test kit and the pet stores and there is no signs of poison and my other fish are healthy in the tank im am left with one conclusion, the angels in the local stores are bought from home dealers and stress easily, the store loses quiet a few in its process of putting them out for display but doesnt care because he is losesing 20 of 50 fish and still has 30 to sell. so when i buy 2 its no wonder that most die. if i bought 20 id probably have 5 or so live. thats all i could come up with.
