what makes a fish twitch isolate himself and stay at the bottom. One of the blur gourami's that i bought has been this way since i got him. over a week now and he's still doing it!!! everyone else is fine! water parameters are good. i have done 2 25% water changes last week...what's up with him?

some fish jsut take longer to adjsut to a new surrounding as well jsut give it time n if theres no major aggression issues in the tank he should b jsut fine

yes, i have 4 others. 3 blue and 2 gold in all. I am thinking that the one that isolates herself is the only female in the bunch..aren't the males more colorful and larger? or is it the other way around? thanks

Yes, males are much more colorful than females. I'd be careful about having more than one gourami in a tank. Gouramis are relatives of paradise fish and bettas, so they may become aggressive and fight each other. Your isolated gourami may have gotten in a fight and is hurt, or is just sick. Hey, when i'm sick, i dont want to deal with other people, too! If your tank is large enough, it may be ok to keep more than one together. Make sure you have hiding places for your gouramis. Another note, sometimes gouramis (like my paradise fish) will take a "nap" and lay on the bottom for awhile. They'll usually snap out of it, especially when I open the cover to add food!
Good luck!

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

What size tank is this? In addition to problems with mixing colors, tank size can also play a role, even if parameters are good.

How do you define good parameters (in numbers)?
