I am having problems with my 7 year old black moor (which is now orange), can someone please offer some advice?

For years his right eye has been getting bigger and bigger and I have treated him for popeye on a number of occasions but it still gets bigger so I have decided that is just how his eye is growing.

Three weeks ago he stopped eating, was very still in the tank and developed cotton wool fungus on his head and bad fin rot. I immediately isolated him in a 35L hospital tank and started treating him with Melafix and Interpet’s Anti Fungus and Finrot treatment.

He is now swimming around the hospital tank and is eating as normal and the finrot is healing but the fungus shows no sign a going away. Am I using the correct treatment or is there something stronger I could use?

I am going away for 2 weeks on 10th December and I would like to have him back in the main tank by then so he can feed on the holiday blocks I am going to use. Is it wise to put him back even if the fungus has not cleared? Also is it cruel to keep him isolated for too long?

Any advice would be much appreciated, I have a picture of the eye and fungus if it helps - see http://www.ucantlose.co.uk/fish.jpg

Many thanks
Carl

Hi sherman12, welcome to the site .

Have a look thru [link=this thread]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/The%20Hospital/43725.html?200407200128" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] and provide all the answers you can. If you havent' got a test kit @home, your LFS will run some tests for you (they may charge a fee it depends. Without more information on the tank it'll be hard to help find the problem.
One problem that people often have with fungus is that stop treating too soon, and or don't address the root problems of the illness (often poor living conditions). Melafix is really only good for helping to heal after real meds have been used. I take it that you're in the UK, not sure what meds are available there, maybe someone else can fill that in.
