cntryboi,
welcome to fp...

First thing have you checked your water parameters? If so let us know what they are and the size of the tank.

Next if it is what I've had in the past just pick up a bottle of MelaFix and follow the directions...and then soon the fishy will be back to normal...

Best of luck, and let us know what happens, heidi

HI and welcome. I agree on the need for parameters, and I am also interested to know if this fish is fairly new?

Tell us about your tank and stocking. What size? What kind of fish and how many of each?

I'll be honest with you. If you have enough bacteria to make a  ounced appearance of mouth fungus on this fish, I would run out and buy some Furan-2 if you can find it (provided it is in isolation as some fish can be sensitive to this - like scaleless). If you can't find that, then get Fungus Clear Tank Buddies.

Depending on pH and temp and the strain of columnaris at work, mouth "fungus", which is really a bacteria, can take the fish in less than 12 hours, eating away much of the face. Been there; done that. It's nothing to mess with and you were wise to get him into a hospital. Make sure he has fake plants and consider putting up a mirror or two around the tank to make him feel like he has company.

What size tank is the hospital?
