i have had 9 danios for about 5 months and today i noticed on of my normal danios has only one eye , what should i do ? i've put it in a seperate thing in my tank . there is no sign of anything coming out , i could have been that way for a long time & i just didn't notice it . it is behaving normaly like all the others but i'd like some feedback on what to do , can it live with ine eye?

Yes it will live with only one eye. I would put it back in with the others, as being separate will stress it out. Watch closely to see if any other fish is picking on it. They can loose eyes from fighting. Danios (in my experience the Leopard Danios) can be a bit of a nipper. And it may just got in the way of a fish in a bad mood. If it is getting picked on, then you will have to separated it. But it will live without its eye. Do you have any predator fish in that tank?, that might like eyeballs for lunch?

i have a yoyo loach and a albino shark , if it was one of them i would suspect the yoyo loach more than the shark , i also have swordtails who have little rips in their fins so could it be related with that ?

I would say from your stock list that no. I could not see either of the yoyo or the shark let only your swordtails doing this type of damaged. To each other (danio) perhaps. Danios are quick swimmers. Too quick for your other tank mates. But the shark might have had a go at the Swordtails. I also have a Albino Shark and he is always having a go at my Mollys, resulting in a slit tail even now and then. So far nothing too rough. I am keeping and eye on them, just in case its gets out of hand. I have heard that Sharks(Albino/Rainbow & RTS) tend to get a bit pushy when they get older.

That would be ashame. What size tank do you have them in?
Do you have any caves or logs? for the shark to hide in. They love caves. If not plants weather real or plastic?
If not try these. The cave for the shark and the plants for the Swordtails to run away and hide in. They then will feel safe. Another thing, how many Swordtails have you got. Remember safety in numbers, if you have say 3 - 4 then the shark will move his aggression around. My shark picks on all the mollys, I have 8 in with him. One molly gets chased a bit by him, buts thats only when he has a bad day and she is trying to get his food. I have never seen him bite any of the fish, I think the Mollys get split tails from trying to get away from him and probably run into something. Not watching where they are going, to busy worrying about the great white shark on their tails.]

Just noticed one of my danios is also missing an eye...other than the fact that it kinda freaks me out there's not that much of an issue....it'll chase the others and be chased just the same...

I have a German Ram who has something that resembles a glass eye. It is flatter and smaller than the other eye, and hasn't got a pupil. The only "problem" with that eye is that he can only chase the female when she's on his good eye side. I wouldn't worry too much about your fish if it acts normal.

the shark has a cave but it is more like the swim through ones , i might get a wood one cos my sister has a fully grown red tailed shark & it sits under there all day.
the plants are plastic , i tried real but my golden apple snail ate them

i have 1 male swordtail and one female , but i don't think it would be the male picking on the female unless she fights back .

could the side with no eye get infected ? if so how would i tell and how would i treat it?

Be careful when adding wood. Wood has tannins in it and where it will not hurt your fish, it will make your water go a tea colour. See Thread http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Water%20Quality/54126.html?200502050653

As long as you keep your water fairly clean, the fishes missing eye will heal itself. And the fish will learn to adapt without it. Just make sure his tank mates do not pick on him though. As that is natures way of getting rid of sick/injured fish.

The male or female swordtails maybe picking on each other. He maybe wanting to mate, and she is saying no, or the other way around. Of all the livebearer I have had, I notice Swordtails are more aggressive. But this is not so much as a bad thing, as they can stand up for themselves. I would advise getting another 1-2 females. That way the aggression is handed around.
