hi what would be the best way to disinfect a log with an annubis plant on it that has been in a tank with goldfish that have finrot and ulcers. also i told the people in my lfs that keeping all their nets in one bucket would spread disease. so of course they they asked what would be the best thing to put in the bucket to kill germs without harming the fish. any ideas anyone? thanks dan.

At the lfs, do they use central filtration or are all the tanks seperate? Many lfs use a central filtration system where the water is combined from all the tanks, filtered through the same large filtration system, and recirculated throughout all the tanks. If this is the case, using the same nets in different tanks makes no difference.

If the lfs you're talking about has tanks which are seperate, where the water is not combined, then they are defeating the entire purpose of having seperate filtration and I'd be scared to go back there.

Nets can be soaked in a weak bleach solution ( 1 part bleach, 19 parts water for example), or possibly in a potassium permanganate solution, which would be slightly less effective, but still good for killing bacteria. Jungle labs even makes a net soak. http://www.junglelabs.com/pages/details.phtml?item=NL080. If using bleach, a rinse bucket with dechlorinator next to the soak bucket, both of them labeled appropriately, would provide the best results in my opinion, but I'm sure there are other chemicals that can be used as well.
