well, does it? Anyone who knows. Angel with sustpected HITH, of course I'm diagnosing over the phone cos I cant see my fish, but it sure sounds like HITH. Anyway, I owe my fishsitter a bottle of Octozin anyway cos he's dosing the tank now, just wondering if I should grab some Cycle when I go for the meds?

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

My British friend will have to reveal the contents of "Octozin"...

The only control I know of for potential HITH is excellent water quality and vitamin-enriched food.

I dont know what's in Octozin, the company dont reveal their ingredients. All I can tell you, it's not an antibiotic.

Tiny always makes me work for info...

OCTOZIN (Flagellated Protozoa)...

For the treatment of "Hole-in the-Head", Spironucleus, Dropsy, Malawi Bloat, Sleeping Sickness and Whitespot in all aquaria.

OCTOZIN is a treatment for internal parasites such as those which cause Sleeping Sickness, Hole-In-The-Head, Seawater Angelfish and Clownfish Disease, Malawi Bloat Disease and also early stages of Dropsy.

OCTOZIN may also be used to treat Whitespot in seawater aquaria where CUPRAZIN cannot be used. OCTOZIN is harmless to invertebrates and algae when used as directed. You will require three separate days of treatment to complete the course.

OCTOZIN is active for up to 3 days after the last day of use. Although internal parasites are destroyed instantly, external signs of improvement to the fish may take up to 7 days.

Is Octozin harmful to the biological filter?? Probably not when used as directed.

OK, I just went and read the leaflet that comes with the 'Waterlife' series of products, as I have used them in the past. It says that medications are harmless to fish, invertebrates, plants and nitrifying bacteria unless otherwise stated. It doesn't say in the description for 'Octozin' that this product will harm any of these things, so this must mean that it doesn't. It does say that some harmless, white foaming might appear on the surface of the water after use, and that this can be rectified with a water change on the 10th day.

Hope This Helps
Scott

It often sort of 'stalls' the biofiltration, but it doesnt kill it. Keep an eye on while you are treating, but it should kick straight back in afterwards.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Tiny...

Under those circumstances is it really worth having a tank??

Must be a real hardship trying to keep long-distance association with trops.
