If your fish has suffered dropsy or suspected dropsy recently, can you please post details of location (country) fish species, food, dechlorinator, salt y or n, etc.

Seems there is a real increase, would be interesting to see if there are any common factors in its development.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

I've studied this disease and responded to many all over the world who have reported the malady...

Various experienced hobbyists have different opinions and ideas about what good water quality really is, perhaps the main cause of the disease.

Sources of good water quality can differ from season to season, the main concern when it comes to bacteria present in the water supply.

A poll to discover the ins and outs of dropsy no doubt would be fruitless because others in the same tank as a sick trop do not always contract the disease.

One thing is for certain. There's no cure for dropsy (edema). The fish suffers and dies quickly after symptoms appear.

the poll is just to see if there is some connecting factor explaining large numbers of cases recently. Is it perhaps a product that a lot of people are using, temperature changes or higher than average temps, etc

Scarlet Kribensis f/m - approx 5 or 6 months ago ?
Type of Dropsy - non-contagious.

Temp 78%... You will find the temp is a common factor unless you're dealing with goldfish..

Possible factors, nitrates were very high at that time, it was before I bought my test kit so Gary makes a good point on water quality. It was over the 50ppm mark (that's being nice).. No chems added to the tank prior to the condition.. ph 8.0, hard water.

A male scarlet krib that I purchased at the same time is still kicking and in good health.

The Amazon Nut...
