If you have no bio-filter how can you maintain your fish in quarantine? Simple thing is to maintain a small hardy fish in your hospital/quarantine tank to maintain your filter. Since the tank is a holding area and may be used for fish triage, I like to maintain the tank with substrate and simple filtration. A sponge filter works well as you can seed it by running it for a couple of weeks in your main tank then shift it to the h/q tank. The big advantage of the sponge compared to other filters is that there is no need to purchase cartridges that you may have to pull apart to remove carbob. Danios or another inexpensive fish will help maintain the filter until the tank is needed for the new purchases or as a clean room. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

Makes a lot of sense, but there is one thing that I am still unclear about. What do you do with the “filler” fish(ies) during the time of the actual quarantine for your new fish? Do you leave it in there? Sorry Fry for just jumping on your thread, ![]() Ingo ![]() |

LF, i'm happy to interest you too ![]() Last edited by fry at 01-Jul-2005 16:50 |
