The first is a defect of the fish from birth, usually in fish with large belly's, this type is non-contagious and is non-treatable. The second is cause by an internal bacteria and can be spread. This type is difficult to treat but but is treatable. If you can, quarantine your fish quickly. A salt bath is cheap and can be used, or go to a fishstore and ask them for a treatment. they'll tell you it isn't likely that you'll save the fish but you can at least try. good luck. |
