I had dosed my fish with coppersafe at half dosage to stop an ich outbreak that occurred in my tank a week ago. All of my fish are now ich free, however, one has developed some sort of fungus near his eye in the past hour. I was wondering if it would be same to use an anti-fungus med with coppersafe and if so, which one would be good to get.
Thanks
Jen

Although Coppersafe has been used to treat various parasites on trops, there is an ongong discussion whether or not it will kill the several species if ich...

Sometimes the elimination of the white spots will not be an indication of a total cure from ich.

Keep in mind that the ich parasite causes the fungus that eventually kills trops when it covers the skin area with open wounds from burrowing.

A 35-40% water change and a good fungus med dosed afterword should alleviate the problem.

Thanks Gary
I do have a couple of questions though. Coppersafe is a 30 day dosage so should I wait until the month is up to add the anti-fungal med? Also, Coppersafe and Maracide are the only ich-meds I can get around here. What ich med would you suggest for future use?
Thanks again!
Jen

Coppersafe has a time-release formula, the reason for the long-term effectiveness...

But, you can short-time the formula by doing the 35-40% water change, thus diluting the med.

Then, if you can get a bottle of Melafix, an anticeptic, you can dose that to control the small area of fungus on the trop.

Maracide, primarily an ich med with a small amount of dye mixed in, has been used by many hobbyists with good results.
