The other ram started to get spots. I moved my royal plec and 2 otos out of the tank to a 10g, added 3tbs of salt over 2days, then added 3tsp of ridich plus over the next 2days. I also increased the temp slightly to 82 since all the fish in the tank besides the algae eaters like it warmer anyway. The fish in the 30g are recovering and the only loss is 2 apongeton plants but I don't want to add my algae eaters back in yet. So far I've seen no sign of ich on them but the sponge filter isn't as cycled as I thought. I added a piece of driftwood with pennywort from my 55g and have been doing water changes. Would it be better to move the plec and otos to the 55g or will they spread ich? So far they show no sign of it but the 10g is a bit small, even though the royal is only 4inches, and all I have right now is a half cycled sponge filter to use on the tank. Also there is no algae in the tank and they haven't really touched the algae wafers or shrimp pellets I've dropped in for the past 5days. Will ich spread that easily to a healthy stable tank and will the royal get along with my gold nugget? |

However, please exercise caution with regards to ich and whether it is done It is highly stealthy. Read this on the ich lifecycle and you'll understand why. Ich meds are only effective when it freshly hatches and is looking for a new host. It does not kill ich already on the fish as they are protected. [link=http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/disease/freshwater/ich.html]http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/disease/freshwater/ich.html" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] If you can stall on putting your other fish back, that would be best. Also, don't drop that temp in the other tank more than 1F daily. You'll create temp stress. Do it slowly and for a big tank, it probably won't drop too quick anyway, but just watch it carefully. Fish don't self regulate their body temps and when they experience an abrupt drop in temp, as little as 3F, it can bring on ich or velvet. This can happen easily with water changes. Consider picking up some Prime or Amquel Plus to put in the 10 gallon for now and do some daily water changes. Be careful with either of these products as they can rob the water of oxygen quite quickly if overdosed. To keep ammonia and nitrite in check, I would dose 10 drops in the AM and in the PM. You may get a false positive ammonia reading so just gage your fish's behavior. If you can get your hands on some BioSpira that would help too. Otherwise, New and iMproved Cycle or Stress Zyme will do. |
