i recently discovered a black moore with a 'thing' growing off of its tail. it was kinda like a lump on one side of the tail. ie the lump was on the tail not through the tail. the lump itself was circular and 4mm.

through the middle of this lump was a checkered cylinder and extending from it black things which could only be described as blood vessels entering into the tail itself. and the lump seemed to be pulsating as if it had a heart beat. stroking the lump resulted in it twice moving a few mm along the tail.

it must surely have been some kind of macroparasite yes? ne idea on what it might have been or were it came from?
the black moore has since been destroyed and the rest of the tank will be watched closely.

btw there were 2 of these things and they both looked and behaved in the same manner.

They are most likely fish lice, a type of crustacean. They can easily be removed manually, and once removed it is best to rub some antibiotics on the site of attachment to prevent infection.

It's the same with my black balloon lyre-tail molly; I got that parasite off at her pectoral fin with a nipper. After which, I treated it with salt, and burn the parasite alive. Then, after a week she’s now doing well and often found her chasing another mollies.
