we need advise with a danio that is obviously not well, it is the smallest and weakest of our gold danios and is lay on its side on the bottom of the tank, i cant see anything physically wrong with it, and when disturbed he shoots around the bottom half of the tank randomly for a few mins then goes back to lying on its side. its been like this since last night (now almost 24 hours)
its in a 260l (70usg) tank, all other occupants seem fine although we did lose a female dwarf gourami unexpectedly and unexplaind last a few days ago. (she went from fine to gone in 3 hours)

water paramaters

temp 25
ph 7.2
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10.

any advise appreciated asap. thanks

Does he look bloated, maybe a fatter belly than usual? It is possible that he is just constipated. If so, feeding him a pea (yes your normal pea, just cut it in half or quarters)should do the trick. Because there are no visual signs, it makes it hard to diagnose. Maybe a little more info on your Gourami death might help.

we cant give any more info on the gourami as she showed no signs of illness untill about 3 hours before we lost her, other than being really shy and never really seeming to settle in the tank. (we only had her 4 days)but she did sit on the bottom for a short while before she died

the danio is now on its side hiding under the corner of the bogwood

Is the Danio new to the tank as well? Maybe he was already sick when you bought him.

we have had the danio since we put the water in the tank - about 6 weeks now. he has always looked smaller and weaker than the rest.

Could be that maybe he was the "runt" of a litter or something? I know there are cases of fish that from the start are just not healthy, and are basically more likely to get sick or living much shorter lives. keep us updated on his progress, or lack thereof.

thanks. he has always been the smallest and we have always said if we lose any it will be him. hembo took him out of tank and put him into container of tank water with some tonic, but he looks dead now. hembo can check later when he comes home.
we did 50% water change last night and all other fish are eating like mad this morning, hopefully that will help them all.

just a final update, we did lose the fish but all the others seem much happier after the water change, it seems to have breathed new life into all of them.
