Sorry for your loss.

Did you see any marks or anything external on her or did she just look normal when you found her? Sometimes *really* unexplainable deaths do happen in our tanks, it's sad but it's a fact of life when you're dealing with living creatures.

Also did you dip the plants in anything before you added them like bleach or anything? It could have possibly been a chemical poisoning if it happened that quickly (maybe something on your hands?) but the plant itself would not have done it.

Do all of your other fish seem ok?

deschazkody,

Sorry here as well.

My first thought was the same than Tryst’s, some chemical on the plant from cleaning it.

Maybe it has something to do with your substrate. When did you clean (vacuum) the last time? Maybe you stirred up some very unpleasant stuff when attempting to plant your plant (sounds silly, but could be possible).

On a side note, can you do me a big favor and change your font color and boldness? I had a really hard time reading your post (and I am 20/20).

Hope this helps somewhat,

Ingo

It could have started a mini cycle if your biofilter was already stressed, or else it's possible that one of the dead bodies had started to make ammonia before you pulled it out. Sorry for your losses, it sounds like you're doing everything right. Just keep up on those water changes and testing, add the ammonia remover as it's needed.

Have you noticed any other symptoms or are they just dropping unexpectedly? You said one was sulking in the back corner but that really could be anything.

Don't be so hard on yourself, we all make mistakes.
