I think I have managed to diagnose what is wrong with one of my CL's. It has a strange new white-ish outline to its fins, causing me to believe that it has velvet.

How should I treat this fish? On this site, it suggests that commercial multi-cure product can be used. If so, how should i treat it to my CL as i have heard they are more sensitive to medicines.

Any other suggested diagnosis'? I originally thought tuberulosis (as I noticed a scratch on the fish not too long ago) however it is taking too long to die and it hasn't spread to the other fish yet. Also, i noticed that it was scratching the sides of itself on a log this morning. Is that a characteristic of velvet? All the water perameters are normal (0.0 amm, 0.0 nitrate), and the pH and GH are all stable.

If it is velvet is it likely that it will have already spawned in the tank? The fish has been showing signs of discomfort for about a week now. Should I treat all the fish or just the one showing signs? Also, how do I clean the tank of the disease and how do I know when it is gone?

Thanks,
simpkia.

Velvet...Scratching, small gold to white spots, loss of color, weight loss, difficulty breathing due to gill damage.

Simpkia, get a torch and look to see if your fish looks like it has been rolled in pollen.

DO NOT increase the temperature if you suspect velvet.

it definately has difficulty breathing. no spots though, only whitish outline to the fins, like its coated in slime or something.

i'm going to try a half hour salt water bath and I'll let you all know how it goes.

What about Costia or similar?

It would cause a similar reaction to velvet but you would have ttrouble seeing it...

Maybe?

things just seem to be getting worse!

The salt bath seems to have made my CL extremely unwell! I halved the normal dosage and everything! He currently resides between the tightest spot of the tank - UPSIDE DOWN! If he's not showing signs of improvement by tomorrow night, I will put him to sleep as he seems to be suffering quite a bit.

Wish me luck!

The only other thing i can think of, do you have FW mussels in the tank?
