Sometimes the change from regular fluorescent bulbs to straight plant bulbs can cause the fish to stress...so you may want to use one plant light and one regular light for awhile...

Also, I think your CO2 and O2 levels may be getting thrown off by the plants...one of the plant experts'll swing by and let you know more about that though...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

chizunk, I think we'll need to know a little bit more about the condition of the tank before we can decide if the illness and death in there is related to the changes or if it might be something coincidental.

Check out this announcement, and post answers to the questions in it so we can get a better handle on the situation and find out what's going on.

"Fine" could have many interpretations.

Please get back to us with some numbers.

The only way to reduce nitrate is through water changes. How often are you doing them now? What size tank is this and what are the other specific fish in the tank?
A high nitrate level could very well be the reason why your fish are sickly and not behaving as they should.
