One of my neon tetras has a lump near the base of it's tail. It's white and it's on the inside, so that the base of the tail is swollen to about twice it's normal thickness. The fish is behaving normally and has no other symptoms that I can see.

It's been like this for weeks. I don't think it's getting any bigger.

I've been trying to get a picture of it, but it moves too fast. I didn't think a red and blue blur with a white smudge would be very helpful.

Lumps are difficult to diagnose...

Small tumors are known in some trops and remain relatively harmless.

Parasites are known to burrow under the skin causing swelling and may remain there slowly developing.

Since the cause is unknown, the fish cannot be treated.
