Hey guys.

One of my bala sharks in the 55g is just hanging out in the corner, not doing anything. Now, i know 55g is too small for him, but he isnt that big yet.

Are balas like, nocturnal?

I feel sorry for the little guy just hanging around... and he is the only one that is doing it too.

I dont even test the water quality of the tank, because it is always 100% good.

Last time i checked the pH it was around 6.7 - but we put some baking soda in, so it probably raised it up to about 7.2

Bala's aren't nocturnal, the one that came along with the tank I "liberated" a year or so ago did that right before he died.....I'd highly suggest you move him to them appropriate sized tank. They're schooling and active fish.

Bala sharks are active almost all of the time, and they do best in schools. If yours is staying in one place, it is probably sick. I'd test the water, since a tank never has 100% perfect water, and it never stays 100% perfect.

One of the reasons that the shark is sick/stressed is that you don't have enough room for it. Bala sharks are very active, and they grow to over a foot long. Plus, they need schools to be happy. You don't have room for even one shark, so I'd recommend moving them out of that tank, to.

maby the ID sharks are making them scared.

The bala only goes to the corner at feeding time - which the ID sharks are most active.

I would remove those iridescent sharks, too. They are terrible aquarium fish, because they are easily spooked, are schooling, and grow upwards of four feet. To prove it, here is a picture of a nice, adult iridescent shark.

For more information about this fish, check out this site's profile. [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/iridescentshark.xml]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/iridescentshark.xml" style="COLOR: #808080[/link][/font]

How many other Bala Sharks you got? How big are they? If you do not have enough Bala Sharks, one will beat up the other one, and then force it into such a position.

I only have 2 bala sharks.

They never fight, i have watched them for hours.

Also, the one that is doing this is bigger than the other one.

But like i said, they only do it during feeding time, when the irridescents are all flipping out, and i know they get scared by fast moving fish.

Hopefully they are getting scared, rather than gonna die

All I can say is, the min requirements for those fish is a 150 gal tank. As for them dieing, they will do that soon, no matter what you do to prevent it now. Within a year probably, they will all surfice.

I do not tell you this to belittle your, or to digrade you, just that it is the plain and simple truth.

I am just sorry you have discover this at this time.

If you do decide to keep those fish, you will see that I am correct in my statements, as they normally live 10-15 years. If yours do not live near these ages, you will understand. As fish can and do live to their full ages in aquariums if kept properly.

Are these the same sites that claim iridescent sharks can be kept in 125 gallon tanks? Just because a website said something, doesn't mean it is true. I'm not trying to belittle you, just set things straight. Bala sharks need a much larger tank than a 75.

how large r ur Balas?

I have 6 schooling balas and they are feeling good. they are active and always hungry. Did u check your amonia level?, maybe they don't get enough sleep (too much light), or maybe buy more balas so they can school(it's really cool, they look more like "sharks", I find Bala Sharks are peacefull fishs, I have them with feeder guppies(also fries) and they don't bother them too much. I know that when they'll get bigger I might have problems cause my tank is only 55G, but the balas are feeling great right now.
