My oscar has what looks like a blister on his eye. It has been there a few days. It doesn't seem to effect his seeing, he still eats fine and swims fine. Can you tell me what is it, what caused it and how to get rid of it?

He is in a 4 foot tank with one asian bumblebee catfish. I can't see that the bumblebee would have done it, they get along fine and he only comes out dusk/night times. the only way I think he could have injured himself is if he swam into the boat I have in the tank which the bumblebee hides in. Is that possible?

Thanks,
Claire

Is an Oscar... anything is possible!! If you could... posting a pic would be helpful.

If you can't post a pic, just keep an eye on it. Keep your water paramters good (Ammonia = 0, Nitrites = 0, Nitrates < 10ppm, pH stable etc) and see how it goes. If it looks like it's beomming infected, start treating with an anti-bacerial medication. You'll need to use something free of copper (so no malachite green or methyl blue) if you wish to treat the Oscar with the Cat still in the tank. Basically... i'd let it go for now, watch your fish closely, and post if there are any changes. My Oscar's are always injuring themselves... and my water is always clean... so they self heal. They are pretty tough fish!

If it's a white or gray type of thin coating the diagnosis would be a fungus...

An over the counter fungus med would be required to treat.
