i've had a pearl danio since dec when the tank started adn tehy've been fine no probs

however about two weeks ago one of them began swelling up and developing a belly.

it still has this and nothing has altered... its pestered by a molly in the ttank but nothing else.

the swellign has arched its back quite severely though it is swimmning fine.

any idea's whats happening or whats wrong?

Swollen bellies can mean their pregnant, swimbladder, can the fish maintain it's balance in the water, dropsy, do scales stick out like a pinecomb, constipation, shelled pea and daphnia.

We associate abdominal bloating with Dropsy, a disease that will eventually kill the fish...

Usually the scales pine-cone out with the bloating.

The fish could be constipated which could cause bloating. Watch for droppings that should be colored, not white.

There is no treatment for Dropsy once bloating is evident.

its maintaining its balance fine

i've thought of constipation and given it daphina both frozen and freeze dried...

i cant see any scales stickin up or anything

it does have slight red "vein" marks on its under belly

if it is dropsy - is it infectious? is there any chance the other fishes will be affected by it?

Can you issolate the fish just to make sure it isn't dropsy,as it is contagious.

Many advanced hobbyists I've had conversations with have agreed with me that the potential for Dropsy being spread is above 80%...

I've seen one fish with Dropsy in various tanks where the other tropicals were just fine.

A bent spine and bloated belly would indicate an internally sick fish.

As always, healthy fish with a good immune system almost always remain unaffected by certain diseases.

Isolation, Mani, would have to take place in a separate tank and different water...

You can try a pic. See the top of this Forum for pic info.

well i've had it in my fry tank for about a day and i put some melafix and some other medication i had in the fry tank and right now its back to its slim ways

the tail is still arched but the buldge under the belly isnt.

it does sort of have saggy stretch marks now though...

could this have been caused by a rather violent fish?

that is my latest theory.

i have three molly's - initially two but one of the fry survived the betta tank and grew big. so i put it in this tank. recently i've noticed that the new molly is quite aggresive towards many of the fish.

the lyrefin molly *orignal* has started to look rather weary and has reddish marks on its tail - sort of like fin nippin... the 3rd molly does chase it around alot tryin to "bite" it... and it had been doin so to the pearl danios too

my other molly's are totally chilled out to the other fish.. its just that one molly who harasses the other fish...

I just love miracle cures...

Probably relieved constipation.
