Do you set one day aside for fasting? Tried feeding veggies like peas? I read all this elsewhere but it could be a digestive problem...I don't know how the red fins fit in though.

I'm a rookie but I did get the info above from the following post:

It might help you until an expert responds.

Tryed some shelled peas, but it sounds like a second bacteria infection with the fins, if they have red patches on the fin you are also dealing with septicemia.

Try going to your lfs and getting some of the medicated fish food...

But, also check to see if it is the fins or just above the anal gland...it could be that your females are having trouble giving birth...I have had similar problems, and there isn't much you can do, I'm sorry:#( Except to place them into an isolation tank that is well planted, and leave the lights off, this sometimes helps to eleviate the stress during the fry birth...

best of luck, heidi

From looking at the other threads and talking with you in chat I think this is probably a bacterial issue causing hemorraging around the gills and possibly internally as well. The red stringy "poo" hanging from the vent could be camallanus....are you sure it's poo or could it be a worm? Even if it isn't I am wondering if this may be a parasitic infection of some sort.

Camallanus looks like this: (pardon the gruesome pictures)

from http://hem.passagen.se/mikeno/texter/camal/smorf.htm

from http://www.pleco.de/krankheiten/krankheitenundparasiten.htm

If you don't think (sure) it looks like camallanus, pick up some good broad spectrum antibiotic such as:

Jungle Anti-Bacteria Medicated Food

Furan-2]http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=28061;category_id=3421;pcid1=2233;pcid2=

Other products that I could recommend would be anything containing furacyn, kanamycin, etc.

Just in case it is a parasite:

*****I HIGHLY suggest you buy THIS product!!!*******

Parasite Clear from Jungle Labs.

It contains:
Levamisole (the best treatment there is for camallanus, other nematodes)
Metronidazole (good for hexamita, also antibiotic)
Praziquantel (excellent antiparasite med)

It is a fabulous formula that is safe for even sensitive and small fish. If it is a parasite it will knock it out within days, but be sure to treat according to the directions on the bottle.

If this were my tank I would get two products, both of them can be found at petsmart for sure and a few other stores:

Parasite Clear Tank Buddies or liquid
Anti-Bacteria Medicated Food

Both made by jungle labs.

Treat the whole tank acording to the directions on the packaging. Hopefully that will do it.
