I bought my female krib (Mrs) a year & a half ago. She was ~3" at the time and grew to 4". She was always the nicest fish, I was early into fishkeeping when I got her and moved around tanks a bit. She made the move to our new apartment and being one of my fish with seniority she got a place in the new 75g with other cichlids and giant danios.

None of the other fish ever bothered her but she spent a lot of time hiding in the tank. She still had great color and was active at feeding time.

Well this morning I found her resting vertically in the back of the tank between a sword leaf and the glass Water params are fine, temp is 79°; no new fish, plants, chemicals. All of the other fish are normal as well.

I didn't want any of the other fish bothering her so I netted her and set up my old breeding-trap thing. She's very calm, I probably didn't even need the net to catch her. She's resting on her pelvic fins like cories do. Her eyes are bulgey and she looks pineconey to me, it's hard to say because I've never dealt with this kind of problem before.

These are the best pictures I could get...any ideas of what's wrong with my poor Mrs and what if anything I can do for her? I have two platy fry in a 6g that I could move then use that tank to treat her. I feel terrible about this, she's one of my favorite fish

Sounds like it may be dropsy to me. If so you need to get her quarantined out of the main tank. Here is a site link on this.

Yesterday she looked much worse, all the symptoms looked like a combination of both pop-eye and dropsy. She wasn't eating and was having difficulty breathing so I had to let her go. Very sad :#(

She was probably adult when you acquired her. And possibly a fairly senior adult at that. But you can console yourself with the knowledge that she had excellent care in your hands ... a lot of other Kribs would kill to be housed in a 75G.

By the time a Krib is around 8 years old, it's into old age. A scale ring count could possibly establish the age of your sadly departed fish (low power microscope needed). If it was over 8 years old, then you've still done pretty well.
