More info is needed. Are they livebearing (mollies, guppies, platys) or are they hatched from eggs. You know an egglayer fry by the fact that it goes through a larval stage that does not resemble a fish until later.

I don't know much about livebearer fry to know if they carry something similar to an umbilical cord that must sever some how. Were the strings there from birth?

If not, what are you feeding them? There are good foods like First Bites by Hikari and other formulas. YOu can also grind flake food to nearly a powder. If they aren't getting anything to eat, they may be producing "casings" which are basically empty poop shells (clear, long and stringy).

my fish had the same problem! if your fish are poopin white/clear stringy poop then thats the sign of an upset tummy or the fish arent getting enough nutrients. you should try changing the food that has better nutrients than the one your feeding them. i hope i helped! give it a try and see if it works!

I'd still like to ask what you are feeding? If you are raising fry, there are lots of good things you can feed. One-sided diets tend to produce constipation. Also, if the food was enough to stop up the fish, it may not have all the nutrients a growing fry requires. Developmental deformaties are the result.

I feed my fry liquid small fry food and after a few weeks I feed them fine powdered flakes and grind up freeze dried brine shrimp. They also get small amounts of tubifex worms too. Thye are a good size right now almost ready to sell ima give it a another week.

Are those live tubifex, freeze dried, or frozen?

Tubifex are a really good delivery instrument for internal parasites. I would buy only that which has been sterilized using multiple methods. Hikari uses a three stage sterilization process. Believe it or not, some bacteria and organisms can survive high temps, drying, freezing, and much more.

How are they now?

For future reference.Constipation happens from time to time. Best way to get rid of it is to feed your fish peas like you know the green ones.
