Hey guys i have a quick question...my mothers goldfish got stuck in it's castle this morning and to make a long story short ended up pretty much ripping off it's tail...is there anything i can do to help? what kind of medication could i give him? should i put a heater in there and raise the temperature? he's by himself...about 3-4 inches long in a 25 gallon tank...

how ripped the tail??? is the fin all gone??? if u have a smaller spare tank..say 5 or 10...use it as a hospital tank to save on medication...buy a melafix and treat the angel till the fin grows back (say, 1 week)

Considering how much waste goldies produce- id leave him in the 25, treat with melafix, as a preventative, taking carbon out of the filter if you have, and keep up on water changes

Water changes ( clean water), and minimilized stress( not moving fish, no dirty water) would be the best help at this point.

Id also remove any decorations that it could get stuck in, so this doesnt happen again.

hca gave good advise...

Treat the tank with Melafix, and since you might be treating for awhile, get the Pondfix, same stuff, more concentrated, and cheaper...

I'd remove anything and everything he can get into, rub against, or move hisself...leave tank temp alone, dont' want to add undo stress

Maybe add an additional airstone? Feed him well, and some fresh veggies are in order, and I'd be doing a 10-15% water change everyday to help keep the water clean and fresh...oh and you might want to limit the time that the light is on during the day...don't want to stress the poor guy out...

best of luck, heidi

ah that was horrible . The tail will grow back but ultra slowly. If his not in pain keep it and heal him. If its suffering in pain rather just end it instead have him suffer more pain .
