my glolight tetras have started looking a pale-ish white instead of the typical clear and they seem to be hiding more than usual.i spotted a dead one towards the back of the tank this morning.i did a 10% water change a few hours ago. what do you think it could be?

What we need to know is what size of tank do you have? What are the water parameters of the tank? Do you have a heater in it? What else is in the tank? Total number of each fish? Are they only this way when you first turn on the lights? I know my fish never look "right" first thing with light, they are asleep at that time.

Fill in the above and let us know, I know I'll be up waiting for some help myself...heidi

size: 20 gallon
temp: 82 F
parameters: need to get another test kit
heater: 110 watt
fish: 6 glolight tetras, 4 kuhli loaches, 2 ottos

the fish look like this no matter what time, their stomach part looks white, but the head and tail look normal. and their "orange strip" looks normal as well.

how do i cure this??

edit: i looked at some of the pictures of neon tetra disease and im not quite sure thats what it is.....my fish don't really have white blotches, it seems as if the actual stomach organ its self is white instead of spots on the actual scales

well it appears as if my heater has come back to haunt me.this morning it was at 80 degrees F so i thought nothing of it, everything seemed fine......i come home from school to find it has jumped to 86. i open the lid and the heat is radiating off of the water.

4 of my 6 tetras are dead and im sure the other 2 are bobbing underneath decorations somewhere

i saw 1 of my 4 kuhli loaches swimming around, but the other 3 maybe hiding, considering the time of day

2 ottos are still unaccounted for

all the snails seem to be inactive as well

............. i guess i'll try salvaging my tank as best as possible

Kuhli can survive 86F and snails might be ok but that's really pushing it for them. Along with the temperature went up rather fast. The tetras like it at 82 max and the otos prefer under 80 and are fine as low as 70. You'd be better off with a temp around 77 for that tank. Are you sure it's the heater and not the lights causing it? What type of lights and heater do you have? High temps and changes in temp could be the whole problem.
