I have a 40 gallon tank that has 3 Boesman rainbows, 1 dwarf gourami, 2 emerald cats and 1 pleco(young juvenile). ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 30 ppm, ph about 7.2. I did a 6 gallon (about 15%) water change on tuesday, and now the 3 boesmans and the pleco have ich. I have a 10 gallon hospital tank, but it seems like too many fish to put in there. I'm also afraid the transfer will be too stressful. But I've had bad luck treating the actual tank in the past because of the harm to the biofilter and resultant nitrite spike (I lost any entire tank of tiger barbs that way). I also thought catfish are sensitive to methalene blue. I need treatment suggestions! A. Do I treat the entire tank (what effect on the emerald cats)? B. Do nothing? (I've had ich go away on its own) C. Are 15% water changes weekly too much?(it seems ich always follows changes)

Hi there,

you need to treat the whole tank and not just the affected fish.

I found an excellent article about the Ick Protozoa and its life cycle. It would greatly help your chances of successfully treating your fish if you read the whole of it!

Both good articles... also try Tri-Sulphur for a copper free ich treatment. I've used it before on BN's, and it did the job nicely.
