"hun, can you make some food to take to Michael's for our party?"

I'm about to get cooking and make 3 rolls of bake-your-own cookies (strawberry pinwheels, molasass rolls and probably stained glass or M&Ms) and chicken and leek pot pies (for which i forgot to buy oven safe mugs, so souffle dishes it'll have to be!)

I can't *actually* cook anything as our kitchen is a death trap (and Jerry is now banned from playing with fire as he turned the oven on the other day and prodded a flame at it hopefully *eek*) but I can get things to 'oven-ready' stage And the stove and microwave are fully functioning

Thing is though, I'm now stuck for ideas. What else goes with chicken and leek (and mushroom and white wine) pies? They are very filling, but thats hardly a complete meal...

Some sort of stovable/microwavable veggie deal? More meat things?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Mini/individual serves are very party like. So appealing and look like a lot of trouble has gone into it. So here are my mini accompaniments....

1) Get a few trays of fresh corn. Can be cooked in the microwave so doesn't make the house hot. Then cut so the cobs are about 3 or 4 inches. Look really cute next to the individual pies.

2) Mash taters is good too. But so are the little cocktail size potatoes already scrubbed then boiled. You can serve with mustard/butter/dill/garlic or parsley/garlic/butter at room temp or hot.

3) asparagus is cheap at the moment and looks fancy. cut into 1.5 - 2" pieces. Steam lightly and sprinkle with sesame seeds (can do with green beans or sugar peas)

Above is assuming you have a sit down meal in mind. sounded it.

For an unusual finger food snackie type option... get some of the chinese dumplings. $5 per pack - all sorts of flavour fillings. Can be steamed in the microwave with a small sprinke of water. Then garnish with soy and chopped corriander, maybe a touch of sesame oil if you have it. Dipping sauces on the side. Go down a treat. Go well with rice paper rolls. But don't know if you could be bothered to do that.

I love talking about food. <sigh>

Depending on your vegie supplier there is usually a good mixed selection of Mini (small young) vegs around. These can be easly steamed or MW. A small selection can be served and topped with a home made good white sauce.
