AquaBid...I listed some multi fry in Jan, auction closed, guy paid me. In the meantime I had two orders of brevis fry go out and had DOA problems even with heatpacks I emailed him saying exactly that and offered to refund his money. He replied that he still wanted the fish.

So I shipped them this past Monday, Priority Mail. Hadn't heard from him or gotten feedback, so I emailed him today. And the reply: I got the fish Thursday. Three were dead. The other three seemed a little sluggish. I'm keeping an eye on them. My water parameters are good.

Now what do I do? I made it clear I wasn't comfortable shipping in this weather (which is 60° one day and 30° the next), was willing to refund. I don't want negative feedback, but I think I made a fair attempt and he was still willing to risk losing fish.

Any thoughts?

well, if you made it clear to him you were uncomfortable shipping and that there might be some loss then he has nothing to stand on if he decides to go against you, especially if he was willing to risk it.

it u ship fish via pritory mail, u should state"at buyer risk"

just next time tape the corners, and double bag, with a heatpack and bubbles, and wrap the bags with newspaper.

but if u ship pritority mail it should be at the buyers risk.

Good point, I don't make guarantees in my auction, but I also don't specifically state at buyer's risk.

As far as packaging...the bottom of the box is fitted with a piece of insulation followed by bubble wrap. The fish are double bagged, placed in the box, and topped with a thin layer of bubble wrap. Then I put in the heatpack followed by more bubble wrap and it's topped off with another cut piece of insulation. I thought I was a good box packer

you could be the best box packager in the history of box packaging and all it takes is for one careless employee during transit to drop it and cause some damage to the inside contents.

I shipped some snails to Sin in Style, but me being an idiot put a rock in it for them to crawl on and the box leaked at the sorting facility.

Also, priority mail is too slow, you should use guaranteed overnight.

Sometimes, it's the morons handling the box that cause the problems.

When the hillstream loaches that I won on Aquabid were brought to my office after being shipped overnight at high cost to me, the DHL guy came in flipping the box upside down and round and round!!!

The box wasn't marked..."expensive , delicate fish please don't treat as a basketball". These shippers seem to have no respect for the packages that they're handling. It could be that.

I know several guys who ship priority mail with no problems at all. I personally wouldn't do it unless I was using breather bags but that's me.

Theresa, I say if you explained to him that you weren't comfortable shipping the fish now and explained that others had trouble due to the weather then you're not liable. one thing though, did you tell him they would be shipped priority and not overnight?

the bottom line is which is more important to you...having 1 negative feedback or go to the trouble of shipping him more fish? shipping isn't all that expensive priority is it? I think it's usually less than $10 right? if so, then you could offer to send him a few more only after he leave you a positive feedback since you're going above and beyond to try to please him. also, I would make sure to specify in the auctions that there is no guaruntee on priority delivery. most people know this is understood, but there are those that will start crying "well it didn't say that in the auction".
