I have a dry, itchy, reddish-blotchy rash on the inside of my arm, mainly between the wrist and elbow. I'm 99% sure it's from spending too much time in the tanks, especially since it's worse on my right arm.

Is this something common, and more importantly is there anything I can treat it with yet still be able to safely do work in my tanks?

Thanks from Itchy in MD

Are you working in marine tanks or just freshwater? (I know saltwater makes me itchy just from the salt... if it's that I'd say wash up really well and use a good moisturizing lotion after working in the tanks.

i would say give it a few days, if it doesnt get better i'd maybe take some more progressive actions, but it sounds to me like a mild skin irritation.. i get those from my work on my hands from washing my hands too much sometimes... maybe its disrupting your natural skin oils??? apparently im not a dermatologist...

i sometimes get that on my hands if I do lots of things with the tanks in one day. I find if i my whole arm down with plain cold water after water changes they don't get irritated.

might want to read up on fish TB, i think that causes mild skin irritation in humans. Unsure as I haven't dealt with it. Its probably something simpler.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Not saying you have fish TB, but good to read anyway.

Thanks for the info. That link was kind of scary but it's good to know.

Fortunately this is just a dry, itchy-reddish thing...I'm sure it's a combination of working the the tanks and the dry air. I just have to treat it on days I won't be sticking my hands in the water.

Yeah, that day will come, in a few years .

I agree, you just may have some sensitive skin these days, with the weather and all. And tanks do contain all kinds of goodies that are not too good for us.

Give it a few days and see if it gets better. If not, for sure see a doctor.
