I take my hat off to the scientists and doctors concerned, even if the finding was a happy accident. After all, they were setting out simply to ameliorate this disease, yet ended up with what looks very much like a complete cure. But then I grew up at the tail end of the earnest optimisms about the wonders of science that peaked in the late 1950s and carried on into the early 60's. Glad to see Louis Pasteur's fine tradition is being carried on.

"Cancer-pwned" I truly hope this is a good beginning to end the thing that I hate most in this world

"Did i hear correctly...yesterday someone told me that kyllie minogue has cancer" Yeah robbie, she has breast cancer. It's all over the news here. It looks like they caught it early though so hopefully she'll have a complete recovery.

The guy who has been running the show with respect to my house rewiring lately is an ex-soldier (Royal Engineers) who had to leave after a hair-raising accident with a 62 ton main battle tank that left him with a broken neck. Then, he set up in the house repairs business, and was promptly struck by liver cancer (some people have atrocious luck in this life - sigh). This was caught fairly early, but he still needed extensive invasive surgery (200 stitches to close up the incision - yeep) and then secondary metastates turned up in his colon, resulting in 2 years' chemotherapy, radiation treatment and more surgery (fortunately they saved his colon, but it was touch and go). One of the reasons the drugs for treating some of the really aggressive cancers are so expensive is because they're organic compounds with platinum atoms in the molecules, and we all know how expensive platinum is ... just as well we have the NHS here, because the cost of the drugs alone would have wiped out his finances otherwise.

If this means the start of much more effective and cheaper treatments, I for one will rejoice. I've seen this guy's operation scars while he's been working, and believe me, it's something neither he not I wouldn't wish on anyone (assorted genocidal dictators excepted) ...
