OK first things first, it isn't my laptop this time

This time it is Pugperson's desktop that has lost it's mind:%) She just got it back from the shop about a month ago, if that long ago.

When it was in there, they wiped it clean, inserted a memory board, and upgraded it to window's xp. For a couple of weeks there it was going great, and all was fine with it...

Now, it's gone stupid on her]:| You turn it on/boot it up...you click the login button. Then it pops up with a message

The message says: Windows needs to be activated...you click activated or cancel....you click cancel it shuts downso you click activate, then it tells you that windows has been activated, you click ok (only option available), and it reboots, and tells you windows need to be activated...and well the loop begins again:%)

I don't know if it will do anything later, because it keeps going through this loop...and as I said if you hit cancel it shuts down

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution? (other than hammer, kick it, scream at it, cuss it, or anything else of those sorts...) What do ya'll suggest? Some of ya'll are really good and can probably figure this one out, if you want a shot at it tell me what to do and I'll try it.

Sounds suss to me.. has it notified her previously of the fact that windows needs to be activated?

Can you call the wondows helpdesk?

Is she in possession of the installation disks or a repair disk?

there are a few fixes, but they are pretty technical if it doesn't give a phone number to call, then you will have to try one of the other methods

Heidi do you have the XP disks if so just re install it.

If you dont have the disks get them if they say no it is possible you could have a pirated copy and it is not registered.

Other than that take it back and get them to fix it.

You can also contact MS direct and see what they have to say also make sure you have all the updated security as well.

OK I've been yelling and screaming at it for about an hour now I guess...our lovely, flavorful pancake has walked me through what to do....it didn't like it at alland wouldn't fix itself...so I said to hell with it I'll reinstallwent to reinstall, and it gives me a message, there seems to be a problem with your copy of windows would you like to repair or reinstallso now it is repairing itself I think (I'm across the room so don't know for sure what it's doing, but the green line is moving across the white box, and it hasn't blown up yet) So I'm assuming all is well...I'll let ya'll know if I've decided I need to borrow a gun and shoot it or not...hml
