I use cream and dilute it with milk. That way I can control the fat content. Usually it is 1/4 cream to 3/4 whole milk.

Yep, I was going to say diluted heavy cream will work. Half & half is pretty easy to find though, I see it all the time in the refrigerated dairy case.
