Well, its somewhat like a srir-casserole because I can't get the electric pan hot enough

New stove isn't in yet Still trying to find the correct type of person to install. Gas fitter is wrong, so is electrician. Very confusing.

Dont you need one of each Calla? I'm sure a plumber came and tinkered around with gas stuff then a sparky came and connected to power when mine was installed.

Oh and Keith, good website. Thanks from me too!

Hi Keith,
Susan and I have been crock potting for years. When you
run a hotel, you are up before the birds setting up the
Continental Breakfast, then regular work up through 19-2000
and then you get a chance to eat. Tossing "stuff" in the
Crockpot allows one to have a meal, ready to eat, on
coming home.
When we changed jobs (18-20hrs/day, 6 -7 days a week was
simply too much stress), we continued with the format.
Now, we spend most of our cooking on either the BBQ or
the Crockpot.

Thanks for the new site... My taste buds are chomping at
the bit!

Frank

With the installation it should be a gass fitter Gas company usually have a list. The electrical connection is usually pluged in to a 3pin wall plug. A full electrical stove usually require an electrican as some have to be wired directly to the fuse box.

My mum does mongolian lamb and beef stroganoff. A quick zap on the stovetop to get the flavours going (onion, garlic and spices/flavour sachet) then into the crock pot.

What about osso bucco.
Slow cooked curry (pataks sauces come in lotsa jar flavours)
Lamb shanks slow cooked

Can even hook crock pot up to a timer. Mum puts hers outside on the deck with a timer. So it doesn't make the house smell all soupey. Slow cooking soaks into the atmosphere good and proper.

A lady my mum works with does a pot roast in hers.

(Calla, deja vous, we first got chatting about crock pots! I don't have one because most food cooked in there is meat based. I prefer my rice cooker! It rocks.)

Is a crockpot like a slow cooker or a casserole?

I love winter lamb or rabbit casserole with plenty of winter veg. What's even better is you can boil the bones for stock and pop the leftovers in a food processor for soup. Makes one meal last for a week!

All Recipes is a great site I like the feature where you can enter what ingredients you have, and also those you don't want as well, to search for recipes.

It is a very slow cooker and certainly can be used for casseroles.

I dont have one I use a very old 100+ cast iron huge pot. I place this on a Cast Iron grill plate to spread the heat it is excellent for slow bulk cooking.

but it's not an actual eletric slow cooker?

Just like a nice big casserole dish?
I love the cast iron ones, my mum has a fantastic Le Creuset casserole she got as a wedding present, I love it sooooo much, it's so versatile and you can cook all manner of lovely things in it

A Crock Pot is a name of a slow cooker (Monier I think?) Plug in, removable 'crock' etc.

I haven't tried casserole dishes yet, and i've not seen cast iron ones, I might have to go hunting!

"Crock Pot" is the registered brand name used by Rival Cookware for its line of stoneware slow cookers. Rival may have coined the name or simply registered an existing descriptive term. Either way, mine is about 20 years old and still cooking. I've got chili going in mine right now. I grill up some smoked sausage dogs and throw them in the pot. Makes for great chili dogs.

My mum slowcooked lamb in hers on the weekend for guests. Said it was superb and would definitely do it again. Despite being initially dubious about the technique learned from a workmate.

it is as follows;

brown the lamb hunk (don't know the cut...whatever is roastable) in a pan on the stove to seal
put in the crockpot on an upturned saucer
Let the slowcooker/crockpot do its thang

Relax while it cooks
Then enjoy

(I think she added a few spikes of rosemary... use your noggin, am sure you can come up with a few things)
