Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001	Well, Adam is our stormchaser, but from my limited understanding of it, tornadoes are much much smaller and are generally a single 'storm', while a hurricane or tropical cyclone (same dif) are much much larger and are made up of many connected storms. Plus I believe TCs need a very low pressure system over or near warm water to exist, they can't move too far inland (not that it matters because something that is X100KM across doesn't need to move too far inland for it to take out entire towns) Tornadoes exist almost exclusively over land in hot areas. A tropical depression is what a cyclone or hurricane is before and after it passes a specific wind speed. tornados occur over land, cyclones/hurricanes form from a TD over water . Both land and water circular wind storms form from conflicting pressure systems. Tornadoes are generally shorter lived as are water formed wind storms once they hit land. ^_^
