Thats not the point at the moment. I can burn DVD's. It is just that they are ripped onto the computer which usually takes about 20 - 30 minutes. Now it says it is going to take longer, like 10 plus hours (which isn't right)

I can burn a DVD fine.

???????

Yes I know that it takes a while (usually took about 30 - 50 minutes to compress) not hours like it is now.

As far as I know there are two basic DVD disks one is + and the other - I was told by Sony the - one can cause problems with some computers especicially Macs.
Also are you compressing them if so this can take ages I was watching one today.

I am getting the new Sony DVD duel layer burner with the Duel layer Disks a little more $ but burn faster and a lot better.

Ok so last week I burnt a few DVD's using DVDShrink.

Then I bought a new DVD and wanted to back it up and well it had copy protection and so looked and downloaded DVD Decrypter. Then I decryted the DVD and then DVDShrinked it and burnt it. That worked fine.

Then on the weekend I tried to copy a couple of music DVDs to which I had no success. So I tried but it was going to take hours (9-10 hours) so stopped it.

I checked and defraged the computer, virus checked the computer and ran all my spyware and adaware software. Then tried again to rip the DVD but still didn't work?????

If that is the case it could be Hard Drive problems I think it requires a professional to sort the problem out. This will cost you $$$ but computer technicans are not cheap. It also could be the software for what you are doing it is not reading it fast enough.

The burn part of the process is fine.

It is reading or ripping the information onto the computer that is taking the time??? Or Encoding the disc onto the computer.

I have done a defrag and have plenty of room on the hard drive.

As keith said, are you using fast enough blanks?

I don't think it would account for 10 yours, but it might be part of the problem.

you haven't got it set to 4x or something acidentally have you?

I have a 6 month old laptop (ASUS) which has a DVD burner in it. I have been burning with no problems for the last 6 or so months but I go to burn a movie over the weekend and it takes for like ever. Instead of taking about 30 - 40 minutes it took - well was going to take hours nearlly a day actually.

What could possibly be wrong with it??? I burnt a Audio CD with no problems and also no problems coping already backup DVD's.

Is there a program to test of something that I can check this with????

Check what? Check if it completes in less time than it does hooked up to your computer.

Check it on another computer. If it works elsewhere then its your computer, otherwise its just broken. Buy a new one.

You say you have Nero is it the latest and upto date for burning DVDs?

Also are you using the correct blanks?

No it isn;t the DVD's that is causing the problem.

Tuesday last week it burnt normally and then on the weekend it started really slow???

The only thing that I changed was installing DVD dycrypter but then burnt a DVD that afternoon so couldn't be that.

I haven't updated anything else. So why would it just do that???

Have you checked that you've got the right speed selected on the burn? Someone managed to change that once on one of my burners @work .
Also if you've gotten slower speed discs.

We just got a dvd burner/printer @work....for some reason the last batch of 50 it decided that it would finish printing both discs before it started burning the next set that batch took soooooo much longer than the others (usually about an hour).

don't know if there's a program to test it out, but you can always try to see if there's a firmware or software update for your burner. if nothing else, try to uninstall and reinstall it (assuming you have the current drivers of course )
